Will I be able to do this without a trainer watching me?

Yes. Not learning how to communicate with your own dog when you want relaxing walks is like refusing to go out in the rain unless someone else will hold your umbrella. It's a burning issue that needs to be immediately solved so that your dog can trust you and follow your guidance. That's the only way you will both be able to relax. Don't worry - I've made the MTP System inside so simple to follow.

You can keep going to group classes and letting the trainer take the leash, but until you learn to actually speak in a way your dog can understand when it's just you two, they will continue to overreact to the environment. This might be why you feel so frustrated. You're trying to do all the right things, but you've missed one of the important foundational skills: learning how to guide your dog into calm.
